The Seas 04:44
The Seas Well maybe it’s the ocean, the strength of all that water, but I guess that every father just wants to protect his daughter. And I know things don’t come easy to a girl of only nineteen but the waves could always carry me and send me off to sleep. And I know this could be the end of the world but I’ve always seen myself as magical and different. And one day I’ll get out of this dead-end town and find someone who cares for me and really make a difference – today I will find you. And sometimes from my window I see stars shine in the ocean and I curl up tight inside myself suppressing my devotion. As my heart begins to grow and carry more of you each day, all your love fills up my blood and I lock it in my veins. And I know this could be the end of the road where the border of my childhood meets the sea, but as we take all of our promises aboard I will make a better life for you and me – today I will take you. For you melt the ice inside my chest as you wait here by the moon and when you melt the ice inside my chest, I’ll return to you. For you melt the ice inside my chest as you wait here by the moon, and when you melt the ice inside my chest, I will die for you. I was many times bitten and many times shy, I couldn’t think of anyone new, but you came in here with your open arms and you made sure that I felt you. And with these arms you’ve placed around me, I wouldn’t want another way to fall into my heart and hit the ground and clear the cobwebs that remain. And I know this could be the end of our time as we near that circled day with every breath, until the day when you’ll finally become mine because none of these little obstacles are left – that day, I will have you. For you melt the ice inside my chest as you wait here by the moon and when you melt the ice inside my chest, I’ll return to you. For you melt the ice inside my chest as you wait here by the moon, and when you melt the ice inside my chest, I will die for you. For you melt the ice inside my chest as you wait here by the moon and when you melt the ice inside my chest, I’ll return to you. For you melt the ice inside my chest as you wait here by the moon, and when you melt the ice inside my chest, I will die for you. I will die for you. I will die for you.

I, the Captain Give me nights by the ocean, I’ll swing from the gallows – you cut through my heart with your razor-sharp arrows. When you fall asleep, nightmare/dreams by the fire, I’ll sit counting sheep til you wake. And oxygen tanks fill the room in my mind’s eye, I keep drawing blanks but the bullets, they fly by. So sit with me here cutting shapes out of paper and never learn from our mistakes. Lie down beside me before the night turns grey and keep those three words in your head for I can’t bear the strain. Well all of us captains go down with our ships, if your heart isn’t in it you better jump off real quick but the ocean can swallow me – I’ll give myself up freely – but if you take my hand I will sail you to safety. You’ll be my iceberg – destroy me completely – and you’ll be my anchor, hold onto my feet please. You, like the tide, you are here then you’re gone but you’re not the captain, for I am the captain of this ship. I will sail to the ends of this planet with the wind in my hair, salt-spray on my back. It will be my escape, I’m the one in control but if you want me to stay, just say hello. If you want me to stay, just say hello. Just say hello and I won’t go.

I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported my music throughout the years – family, friends, teachers and anyone who has ever been to my gigs or listened online to any of my music. I am so grateful for having been able to produce this first Pocket and am very much looking forward to making the rest of them and that’s all down to you – the wonderful listeners. Thanks also go out to Peter Chiles, Sam Murray & the guys at Calder Recordings for the music side of things in this Pocket, and Charly Dunne & Gareth Smith for the design. Finally, I’d like to thank Isabelle Knight, John Heward & my best friends – especially the 9RMT crew – for everything.
